A Spicy Maharashtrian Sweet That Helps Fight Colds & Cough

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ginger, cleaned and sliced
  • 2 cups jaggery (or sugar)
  • ½ tsp turmeric (optional)
  • ½ tsp nutmeg powder
  • Ghee for greasing the tray

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Grind together the ginger and jaggery into a smooth paste.

Cooking the ginger paste

  • Heat a pan.
  • Add the ginger and jaggery paste.

Cooking process

  • Keep the flame on low to medium.
  • Stir the mixture continuously until it begins to thicken.
  • Add the nutmeg powder and turmeric after 6–7 minutes.
  • Reduce the flame to low after about 10 minutes.

Setting the candy

  • The entire cooking process takes about 15 minutes.
  • Transfer the mixture to a tray or plate greased with ghee.
  • Spread it evenly and cut into pieces with a greased knife or pizza cutter before it cools completely.

Ready ginger candy

  • Cut into small squares.
  • Allow it to cool completely.
  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Enjoy as a candy or add it to hot tea or warm water.
