Kulluki Sharbat (Kerala Style Shaken Lemon Drink)

Kulluki Sharbat is one of the most popular summer drinks from Kerala, especially Cochin. This refreshing beverage is a unique combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors made with lemon or calamansi juice, soaked basil (sabja) seeds, fresh mint, and green chili. Served ice-cold and shaken before pouring, Kulluki Sharbat is the perfect thirst quencher on hot days.
Ingredients
- 2 tsp basil seeds (sabja), soaked in water for 5–10 minutes
- 2 tbsp sugar
- Juice of 1 lemon or calamansi
- Pinch of salt
- Cold water
For Garnish
- Fresh mint leaves
- 1 green chili, slit in the center
- Ice cubes
- Lemon or calamansi slice
- Granulated sugar (for frosting the rim of the glass)

Instructions
- Add the lemon (or calamansi) juice to a shaker or bottle and dissolve the sugar completely.
- Add a pinch of salt.
- Add the soaked sabja seeds, fresh mint leaves, and slit green chili.
- Add cold water and a few ice cubes.
- Shake the mixture vigorously until well combined.
Serving Instructions
- Rub a little lemon juice around the rim of the serving glass.
- Dip the rim into granulated sugar to create a frosted edge.
- Carefully pour the shaken Kulluki Sharbat into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with a lemon slice, mint leaves, and additional ice if desired.
Serve immediately and enjoy chilled.
