Nariyal Barfi

Nariyal Barfi is a delicious Indian sweet prepared with milk, coconut, sugar, and milk powder. This rich and flavorful dessert is commonly made during festivals and special celebrations, especially in South India. It is easy to prepare and has a soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture.

Ingredients

  • ½ liter full cream milk
  • ⅓ cup desiccated coconut (fresh coconut may also be used)
  • 1 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • ½ cup milk powder
  • 2 tbsp cream
  • 1–2 tbsp sugar (adjust according to taste)
  • Chopped pistachios for garnish

Instructions

  1. Take a heavy-bottom non-stick pan.
  2. Boil the milk for 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add the desiccated coconut.
  4. Add the ghee.
  5. Cook the mixture over low to medium heat until the milk reduces to half its quantity.
  6. Keep stirring continuously.
  7. Add the milk powder.
  8. Add the cream and sugar.
  9. Continue stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
  10. Cook until the mixture thickens and begins to leave the sides of the pan, forming a dough-like consistency.

Preparing Nariyal Barfi

  1. Lightly grease a mould with ghee (or line it with parchment paper).
  2. Pour the hot barfi mixture into the prepared mould.
  3. Smooth the surface with a spatula and press it to your desired thickness.
  4. Garnish with chopped pistachios.

Setting Coconut Barfi

  1. Refrigerate the barfi for 30–40 minutes.
  2. Cut into your desired shapes.
  3. Your easy and delicious Nariyal Barfi is ready to serve.

    I made these barfis for bhoj during Ganesh puja. I made them bite size & since they were not very sweet unlike the ones we buy the stores everybody was able to enjoy more than just one.
