

Ingredients

- 500 gms small black Chana, soaked overnight
- 3 medium onions, sliced finely
- 7-8 small garlic cloves
- 3 medium tomatoes
- 1 tsp green chilli and ginger paste
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- Salt to taste
- Water
- 2-3 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- ½ tsp Shilpa’s Masala Mill Garam Masala
- 2-3 green chillies
- ½ tsp cumin seed powder
- 1 tsp coriander seed powder
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Add Chana into a pressure cooker.
- Add onions, garlic, tomato, red chilli powder, turmeric and salt.
- Add enough water to cook the Chana.

- Pressure cook for 1-2 whistles and then cook on low flame for around 10-15 minutes.
- Cool the pressure cooker before opening it.
- Check if the Chana has cooked.


- If there is a lot of water in the Chana, use a high flame and let the liquid evaporate.

- I’ve transferred the Chana to a kadhai as my pressure cooker is small.
- Add black pepper powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, ginger and green chilli paste.

- Mix well and then add oil.


- Bhunao (fry) this very well for 10-15 minutes.
- Add hot water.

- Mix well, cover and simmer on low flame for at least 10 minutes.
- Add green chillies and Garam Masala and simmer for 2-3 minutes.

- And that’s it, your Kale Chane ka SALAN is ready.

- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis, rice and salad.
